Things to Do

Emily

I’m a cheerleader for professional baseball and basketball teams in Taiwan as well as an entertainer and YouTuber. I love documenting my travels and daily life, and whenever I discover an interesting place, I can’t wait to share it with my fans. My visit to Nemuro in Hokkaido let me step away from my usual fast-paced travel routine, I was able to slow down and recharge, surrounded by rich nature.

Reconnecting with Nature and Self—A Journey into Nemuro’s Soothing Landscapes

Accustomed to the hustle and bustle of big city tourist spots, Emily was pleasantly surprised by the healing atmosphere that awaited her in Nemuro. The vast landscapes shaped by sea, forest, and wetlands naturally slowed down her pace, giving her time to fully savor the experience and reconnect with herself.

Witnessing Beauty that Can’t be Replicated in Photographs

This was my first visit to Hokkaido and although I had always imagined it to be stunningly beautiful, Nemuro seemed to go even beyond that. Seeing its scenery in real life surpasses anything portrayed in photographs—which are already beautiful in their own right. It’s experiences like this that truly capture the essence of Hokkaido.
Nemuro offers the perfect escape from the city, inviting you to connect with nature as you gaze out at the sea, spot wild birds, and walk through forests. Everything seems to exist in a kind of symbiotic harmony—a lighthouse guiding ships out to sea, wild birds gathering at wetlands, and primeval forests of Sakhalin spruce shrouded in a mystical atmosphere. Experiencing these sights feels like discovering Nemuro’s inherent treasures step by step with your own feet.
I also encountered some fascinating terrain. What stood out most were the unusually shaped rocks called kurumaishi. These formations create natural wave-like patterns, but for me they looked like giant popcorn kernels densely packed along the cliff face. It was my first time seeing rock formations like these, making the experience especially memorable.

Becoming One with Nature at Japan’s Easternmost Point

Arriving at Cape Nosappu, Japan’s easternmost point, I felt a profound sense of adventure—as if I had reached the culmination of an epic journey. Standing beside the white lighthouse and looking over the sea, I spread my arms out and let the sea breeze wash over me, feeling as though I had become one with the wind.
I had similar moments of awe at the breathtaking landscapes of Shunkunitai and Lake Furen. The remarkable quiet of these places allowed me to observe the delicate balance between flora and fauna up close. Simply walking through these environments felt deeply restorative, as if time itself had slowed down. Nemuro’s pristine natural surroundings seemed to offer the chance to listen to the quiet voice of the world.

Exploring Flavors Unlike Anything at Home

After working up an appetite from exploring such diverse landscapes, I was excited to check out Nemuro’s local food scene. What stood out most was the incredible freshness of its seafood—this is truly a destination for seafood lovers. The region is famous for Hanasaki crab, and I had the opportunity to enjoy it in a variety of creative dishes. Extremely fresh, sweet, and rich, it tasted unlike any crab I’ve had before. Sampling other local specialties further revealed the creativity and exquisite flavors that define Nemuro’s soul food.
With its calming atmosphere, Nemuro is a place where you can slow down and truly savor each moment of your journey. I loved taking the time to walk at my own pace, admire the scenery, enjoy delicious seafood, and quiet my mind. I hope more people come and experience the quiet wonder of this remarkable place.
